LEGAL ADVICE FOR ALTERNATIVE EDUCATIONAL STARTUPS

LEGAL ADVICE FOR ALTERNATIVE EDUCATIONAL STARTUPS (Facebook Closed Group)

Are you looking to establish some form of alternative educational startup whether it be informal / formal home education groups, forest school, self-directed, democratic school or other educational setting? Struggling to know where to turn or where to begin with issues like the law, statutory duties and obligations and the bureaucracy? Then maybe this forum can fill some of the information vacuum for you.

Alternatively, could you help out and join the team of people sharing knowledge and experience? You don’t have to have all the answers, you don’t have to commit to anything but any nuggets of advice or signposting to and through the law and suggestions for navigating the bureaucracy would be welcomed by a range of people looking to establish educational startups. If you have more time to give on certain topics that would be welcomed and help us build a permanently available resource. Many of you have gone through this process yourselves and know how lonely, lengthy and demoralising the journey can be. Let’s give the next generation of alternative educators a helping hand

This forum has been established to share advice, support and experience on legal issues relating to establishing or running an alternative educational setting. There is legal expertise within the group along with practical time earned experience of alternative practitioners and activists. As you progress along your own journey with a new educational setting we’re sure you, in turn will be able to contribute to this advice and support.

The advice is given in good faith but responsibility cannot be taken for errors and omissions. Members must take steps to verify any information they are given and to ensure it meets their own particular circumstances.

The forum is a collaboration between the Centre for Personalised Education https://www.personalisededucationnow.org.uk/ and the Phoenix Educational Trust http://www.phoenixeducation.co.uk/ and aims to fill a long unfilled gap in information and support to alternative settings.

As time goes we hope to be able to generate a set of FAQs / Answers and specific Briefing sheets on various themes that arise. An e publication could follow in due course.

Clearly, the strength of the group and the advice it offers will get better as it matures.

Join the forum now. Hopefully we can ‘go live’ during October 2018
