Making children’s rights real: the UN CRC as a legal instrument

Peter Newell is coordinator of the Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children  and the UK-based Children are Unbeatable! Alliance, campaigning to achieve children’s right to equal protection from assault. He was involved in the UN Secretary-General’s Study on Violence Against Children and is co-chair of the International NGO Advisory Council for follow-up to the Study; he is also Adviser to the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children (ENOC). He chairs the Council of the Child Rights Information Network – CRIN, and is Vice President of the NGO Group for the CRC. He is co-author of UNICEF’s Implementation Handbook for the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
