Anne Frank Day June 12th – Assemblies and teaching materials for schools.

The Anne Frank Trust UK is the partner organization of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. We work throughout the UK to perpetuate the message of Anne Frank, and we encourage all schools to mark Anne Frank’s birthday each year in order to raise pupil’s awareness of the significance of her life and times. This assembly allows pupils to reflect on the power of one child’s story during a terrible time in history.

This year’s theme is the 10th Anniversary of the Anne Frank Declaration and the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This assembly explores the impact and importance of that book, which came to be written in such extraordinary circumstances. More generally, Anne’s story may allow schools to address problems such as bullying, isolation and racism.

For four years, we have been providing free of charge original assemblies for schools to download. This year, in addition to the assemblies, we also offer other teaching materials.

Included for download on our website:

There are two assemblies, Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3.
There is also a PowerPoint presentation which includes images of Anne and the Anne Frank Declaration. You may wish to download these to display during your assembly / form session.
You can also download the new style Anne Frank Declaration certificate which can be printed in colour and displayed in your classroom, or given to each pupil after the assembly.

The Key Stage 2 assembly fits well with the majority of SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) Primary National Strategy, whilst the Key Stage 3 assembly fits well with the Citizenship, History and English Literature curriculum.

We recommend that this assembly is used in the week of Anne Frank Day (12th June) or near the anniversary date of the diary publication (25th June)

We welcome and value all comments, so we would be grateful to know how the assembly was received and how it was used. For the development of our future projects, we would also like to know if you chose to adapt the assembly in any way. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments!

These assemblies are available for free to download on our website: http://www.annefrank.org.uk/node/96
