National Learning Forum Can We Learn Our Way to Happiness?   London 02 October 2008

The Campaign for Learning is hosting a National Learning Forum to debate the need for wellbeing policy in education and its impact on children, families and adults. Intimate and interactive discussions held in the afternoon will aim to stimulate debate and allow every delegate the chance to exchange information and opinions. The discussions will be lead by experts in their fields, including:

  • Ian Leith (BusinessLab) and Phil Wade (Sydney Smith School) on ‘Family Learning Capacity’
  • Susan Davis and Sandra Crozier (School of Education, UWIC) on ‘Nurturing your emotional literacy / Well-being ~ because you’re worth it!’
  • Annette Mountford (Family Links) on ‘Adults as sculptors of children’s brains and builders of children’s self-esteem’
  • Marie Easom and Rachel Johnstone (Campaign for Learning) on ‘Live Long and Prosper’
  • Nina Bell (BBC) on the ‘Headroom’ project
  • Jane Anderson (Gateshead Council and Author of ‘The De-Cluttered School’) on ‘ The Joyful School’
  • Nicola Steuer (New Economics Foundation) on their centre for wellbeing

More information on these discussion topics can be found on the agenda for the event. Delegates will also hear keynote speakers from a wide range of discipline, contibutions include:

  • Sue Palmer, author of ‘Toxic Childhood’ will speak on her three-year research into the influence of contemporary culture on children’s development.
  • Wellbeing Programme Leader of the Young Foundation, Dr Marcia Brophy will look at whether Local Government can prescribe happiness.
  • Dr Ilona Boniwell, wellbeing psychologist, coach, and author of Positive Psychology in a Nutshell, will share some of her practical strategies for wellbeing.
  • Ben Page, from IPSOS Mori who will present the national picture of ‘Happiness in the UK’ from recent surveys.
  • Lex McGee, Author, Founder of LearnFast World Lt and AND Organisational Ecologist will look at the Living organisation and how we can live life to the full.
