Masters Level Teaching Profession for the UK

The UK will be moving towards a masters level profession led by the TDA (Training and Development Agency for Schools) http://www.tda.gov.uk/about/newsletter/apr2008/chiefexecutive.aspx . The masters in teaching and learning is heralded as if it will by some magic ‘deliver’ ‘world class’ ‘high standards’. The search for the ‘holy grail’ continues. However, all the bits of paper in the world won’t necessarily shed insight on to the distinction between schooling and education and the tyranny of univited teaching and assessment so sorely lacking in our learning systems. Some pretty basic questions about education still need to be aired rather than increasing our expertise in ‘delivering more of the same’.
